Description

Staff Scientist 1, Cell Biology of Hearing

The Section on Structural Cell Biology (SSCB) in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), seeks a Staff Scientist. The SSCB utilizes advanced microscopy methods and cellular biology approaches to elucidate the molecular and structural basis of mechanisms underlying normal and disordered hearing and balance. The NIDCD intramural program comprises a highly interactive and dynamic group of scientists at the forefront of research on communication disorders.

The SSCB Staff Scientist serves as a laboratory leader who contributes to training and mentoring of all laboratory members. The position requires outstanding interpersonal skills, teamwork, and excellent oral and written communication abilities. The SSCB Staff Scientist will have a doctoral degree, postdoctoral research experience, and an outstanding publication record. Requisite expertise includes cellular and molecular biology, advanced light and/or electron microscopy, and use of mouse models.

This position is classified as a Staff Scientist | NIH Office of Intramural Research within the federal government. A Staff Scientist is an NIH employee generally appointed to a time-limited, renewable position to support the long-term research of a Principal Investigator. Staff Scientists often work independently and have skills and knowledge essential to the work of the laboratory.

The NIDCD Division of Intramural Research is located on the main NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The SSCB and the NIDCD’s basic science laboratories and state-of-the-art core facilities are housed in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center, one of the largest neuroscience research buildings in the world. Our clinical and translational research programs are located at the NIH Clinical Center. All NIDCD researchers have extraordinary opportunities to leverage the extensive resources and expertise across NIH’s Intramural Research Program to perform interdisciplinary and collaborative research from bench to bedside.
